Saunders wins Doerun mayor's race

DOERUN — George Saunders Jr. defeated George Elliott Tuesday in the race for Doerun's mayoral post.

Saunders received 180 votes to Elliott's 71. It was the only contested race in the Doerun municipal election.

Chad Kimbrell and Mike Blair ran unopposed for the Post 1 and Post 2 city council seats, respectively.

Saunders will replace 15-year Mayor Wade Ethridge, who did not seek re-election.
