'Hardcore agriculture,' with something for everyone

MOULTRIE — The 31st annual Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition will feature something old, something new and, of course, something green.
Expo Executive Director Chip Blalock said the more than 1,200 exhibitors have hung with Expo even during these hard economic times. They see everyone with Expo has worked hard and will work hard to bring the visitors here, he said.
“It’s humbling to have the exhibitors have so much faith in us,” Blalock said. “We’re hoping to bring the world to Moultrie.”
Kentucky will be this year’s Spotlight State, the first time it has held that distinction. The Kentucky Farm Bureau, The University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture have joined together to feature all Kentucky has to offer.
Expo offers exhibitors the chance to show their wares and for visitors to see the latest in agricultural equipment and products, Blalock said. Static displays of equipment and products are available, and they can be seen in action courtesy of Expo’s field demonstrations.
“We thrive on showing the latest technology before it’s in the marketplace,” Blalock said.
New this year will be the Toyota Behind the Wheel Adventure, as Blalock said Toyota is now the official vehicle of Expo. It will also have two new demonstrations for horse owners and horse training.
Blalock said this year’s show will also feature demonstrations and seminars on backyard organic gardening. The purpose is to allow everyone to be able to grow their own produce and control it organically.
“When you go to pick the produce,” Blalock said, “you know you’ll have a healthy and natural meal right from your home.”
As always, Blalock said Expo will have something for everyone in the family. Yearly features include the animal exhibitions and demonstrations, educational exhibitions, the Swisher Sweets Farmer of the Year, stock dog trials, the antique tractor showcase and parade and the Family Living exhibitors. Even with the wide variety, the primary focus of the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition is “hardcore agriculture.”
