Toyota gives first-hand driving experience at Expo

MOULTRIE — In its first year as official vehicle of the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition, Toyota gave Expo visitors a chance to experience their trucks first-hand.
Toyota brought its Behind The Wheel Adventure to the Expo field demonstration grounds during the three-day event. Anyone over 18 was able to drive either a Tacoma or a Tundra, free of charge, over the designed obstacle course. The course included several berm, or angled, turns; a bridge; a tunnel; two dug-out holes; and a teeter-totter swinging road. All drivers received a free gift for participating, and all children were also given a free gift.
Melissa Donia, a media representative for Toyota, said this is the fourth year of the obstacle course but its first time at Expo. Formerly known as the Toyota Trucks Off Road On Site Adventure, it drew a large crowd despite it seemingly distant location from the exhibition area.
“Our goal is to get people behind the wheel of a four-wheel drive Toyota Tacoma or Toyota Tundra in a real life off-road experience,” Donia said.
The Behind The Wheel Adventure is most often on display at car shows, but Donia said it was welcomed to be used at Expo. It was wildly successful, she said.
“We’ve felt very welcomed here,” Donia said.
Toyota trucks have always been known for being good looking, Donia said; the purpose of the course was to allow those in agriculture to experience how the trucks handled and worked. With other truck companies very prevalent in this area, Toyota hopes the course will allow everyone to see their trucks are just as useful as they are good-looking.
“We want to reach out to this demographic, agriculture, and show them they can get dirty and still get the job done,” Donia said.
