MOULTRIE — Delta Epsilon Chi, the marketing management club at Moultrie Technical College, recently kicked-off its annual campus-wide drive for the Serenity House shelter for battered women and their children as its Summer Quarter community service project. The drive will begin on Friday, Aug. 15, and run through Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The members hosted a luncheon for Serenity House Director Blue Shaddix and Serenity House volunteer Anne Moxley. Shaddix talked to the club members about family violence in Colquitt County and what the Serenity House does to alleviate the problem.
Shaddix said, “Every nine seconds a woman is physically abused in the United States.”
DEX Chapter President Teresa Wilson said, “We want to encourage campus-wide participation in the drive, and we are extremely proud of the positive response we received the last few years from the students and faculty who participated in the Serenity House drive.”
Items to be collected for the shelter include over the counter medications, health, beauty and hygiene items, infant and children’s needs, office supplies, paper products, laundry supplies, and cleaning supplies that are needed on a regular basis.
DEX is the college division of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) and is the only student organization operating in the public post secondary school system dedicated exclusively to developing future leaders for marketing and management.
