Pilot Club holds annual ‘Wee Bit of Moultrie’

Staff Reports

The 7th annual “Wee Bit of Moultrie” hosted by the Moultrie Pilot Club was held on Saturday, March 14, at the Indian Lake Recreation Center. This year guests were treated to a Spring Fashion Show and Luncheon.

A lunch of chicken salad, pasta salad, fresh fruit and brownies, prepared by Pilot Club members and lemon squares donated by Three Crazy Bakers, was served as guests watched a fashion show of the latest spring fashions. Colquitt County HOSA club members assisted by serving the luncheon guests.

Clothes for the Spring Fashion Show were provided by Turner’s Fine Clothing of Moultrie. Anne Carlton, owner of Turner’s, volunteered her time to fit models with the newest trends in spring fashion, provided the commentary for each fashion during the show, shared her expertise with guests on best styles for body shapes, use of color to accentuate an outfit and donated a handmade necklace for the auction. Many ladies of the community volunteered their time to model for the event. The models were Susan Cosper, Debra Cox, Kacey Creech, Krissy Davis, Kittie Gandy, Beth Garner, Earlene Huey, Ann Hoffman, Tina Humphries, Melody Jenkins, Leah Lane, Megan Lee, Donna Lott, Dot McKellar, Linda Meade, Jenna Mock, Jordan Odum, Jane Pitts, Johnnie Reynolds, Julianne Taylor, Pam Tillman, Kelly Walker, and Tina Weldon.

Decorations for “Wee Bit” were donated by Ronnie Barrett, Flowers by Barrett. Table decorations included centerpieces with a spring theme. Baskets resembling picket fences filled with colorful Easter eggs and flowers or crystal bowls containing floating lilies decorated the tables. Ferns and other greenery were placed around the room and along the stage where the models showed off their ensembles. Gregg Hersey, Market Barbecue and Catering, donated tableware for the event. Several tables were decorated with the personal china, crystal, and silverware of Pilot Club members. Colquitt County FFA members assisted the Pilot Club by setting up tables and chairs, parking guests and serving as stage attendants during the fashion show. A silent auction of items such as jewelry, handbags and home decor was held during the fashion show Intermission. Auction items were donated by the following local businesses Cranford’s Jewelry, Bemice’s, Sid’s Antiques, Griner Jewelry, Melody Jenkins, Wilson Jewelers, Turner’s Fine Fashions, Coco’s. Michelle’s of Adel, Ga., also donated items.

Several local caterers donated cakes for auction. Red Velvet, Chocolate and Key lime were just a few of the cakes bid on by the guests. The cakes were donated by Paula Norris, co-owner of Tarragon Grill, Fancy Taste Caterers, Robin Noethe, Betty Bryant of Sweetness by Betty, Tabitha Kirksey and Amy Grantham.

The Pilot Club of Moultrie’s 65th Anniversary Cookbook was on display for guests to preview and purchase. The cookbook features recipes of past and present Pilot members.

The Moultrie Pilot Club uses the proceeds from “Wee Bit of Moultrie,” the main fundraiser, to support various community, district, state, and international projects. Pilot Club is an international volunteer service organization whose main emphasis is brain-related disorders. The Moultrie Pilot Club sponsors a guide dog through SEGD Association, participates in providing locator bracelets for the elderly or autistic who may have a tendency to wander off, supports the local Special Needs Girl Scout Troop, and provides needed items for the Senior Center and local nursing homes in the community.

Moultrie Pilot Club meets the first Monday of each month at Western Sizzlin, at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Mary Houseal at 229-891- 2776, Cherie Searcy at 229-873-3532, or Norma McKellar at 229-985-4310.
