Knox presents program to club
Staff Reports
Dee Knox of Hahira, Ga., past district director of Camellia District Garden Club, district chairperson for “Fun With Flowers” and master flower show judge, presented the program for the Magnolia Garden Club recently at the September meeting.
She demonstrated what could be done with all kinds of flowers and flower containers. She used fruit and vegetables, as well as blooming flowers and greenery and showed what could be used in simple arrangements and look very elegant. When the program was over, Betty Cooper won the door prize, which was one of Knox’s creations with a pumpkin arrangement.
Peggy Bridges opened the meeting and welcomed the members and one visitor, Jackie Estep. Mildred Rentz read a poem, “God is Passing By” as the devotional. Ruby Bowermeister called the roll and read the minutes of the last meeting. Virginia Hart made some announcements. She suggested that the club bring shoes for “Soles 4 Souls, Changing the World One Pair at a Time.” These shoes will be distributed to aid the hurting and shoeless children worldwide, and asked that the club get involved to help give hope, simply by giving a pair of shoes for the needy. Lorena Barhite introduced the speaker.
Mary Phillips brought some horticulture plants that were damaged by the recent hurricane flooding to show what happens with too much wind and rain. Each member brought three horticulture specimens to be judged. Every member won blue ribbons. The Gardener’s Log for September was to divide and replant almost any crowded perennial clump such as shasta daisies, perennial phlox, ajuga, hosta, daylilies and bearded iris.

Those attending the meeting were, Lorena Barhite, Joyce Berg, Ruby Bowermeister, Peggy Bridges, Patsy Brinson, Odelle Cato, Betty Cooper, Jeanette Edmondson, Jackie Estep, Virginia Hart, Shirley Mims, Earline Murphy, Christine Newton, Mary Phillips, Mildred Rentz, and special guest, Dee Knox.
