Hall speaks to Sunshine Club at Oak Dale Baptist
Staff Reports
The Sunshine Club at Oak Dale Baptist church met recently. Shannon Hall spoke to the group about her job as CIS (Communities In Schools) mentor coordinator.
She encouraged everyone to help that special child or children in school that needs mentoring. This changes the children’s lives that would otherwise probably quit school, and not do their best, she said. To give positive words of encouragement or simply patting the child on the shoulder, is very valuable to the child in need of help, she said. She told them if they were interested in becoming a mentor, they could call her or Sam Baker at 985-9577. This will surely benefit you as well as the children, she said.
Marian Allyn welcomed the members and Enoch Squires said the blessing for the covered dish dinner. The Rev. Sammy Hiers had the devotion. He read from Romans 14 and talked about the “Joy of God.”
Birthdays for the month of September were Laura McCorkle and Enoch Squires. Doris and LaRue Abbott celebrated their 13th Wedding anniversary.
Laura McCorkle gave the treasurer report and read the minutes of the last meeting. Mildred Rentz decorated the tables with roses.
The club voted to give to the State Missions again this year. Doris Abbott introduced the speaker. Door prizes were given to Stan Spruill, Geneva Tompkins, Faye Rowe and Doris Abbott. Those attending the meeting were Lorena Barhite, Shirley Mims, Enoch Squires, Laura McCorkle, Dorothy and Stan Spruill, Faye Rowe, Marian Allyn, Mildred Rentz, Robert and Geneva Tompkins, Mabel Thomason, Myrtle Thornton, the Rev. Sammy and Karen Hiers, Doris and LaRue Abbott, and special guest Shannon Hall.
