  • Ga Clipping.JPG ‘Low maintenance’ doesn’t mean ‘no maintenance’

Another holiday has come and gone as the month of July counts its days and we once again focus our attention on the home landscape. Curb appeal and maintenance requirements play an important role as choices are made and plants are installed into our landscapes according to plans. Any failure in responsibility towards understanding and satisfying maintenance requirements will definitely result in the potential loss of the new plants.

Lindsey and Matthew Goss — grandchildren of Bobby and Janice Goss, Truman and Lynn Wilson, all of Moultrie, and the late Buddy McCoy — have accomplished what few siblings can claim. Both were honored recently for achieving the highest honor offered by Scouting.

  • Ga Clipping.JPG Enjoy friendships and flowers during the Fourth

Many thanks are expressed to the many men and women in uniform who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and to those who have served and/or are currently serving this great country. Without your service, we could not say “Happy Birthday to the USA!”

  • Kichler, Jeremy.jpg Nematodes in my garden!

I often get questions about controlling nematodes in the home vegetable garden. Since there are no home gardener chemicals we can get economically for nematode control then the answers get few.

  • Kichler, Jeremy.jpg Fire ants in my garden

Questions about fire ants in the garden are common around the Extension office. Fire ants can be a nuisance and they can damage some vegetable crops such as okra and Irish potatoes. Fewer fire ant mounds would result from tilling your garden but a few mounds may persist in heavy mulch or close to vegetable plants. In these cases fire ant baits or mound treatments may be in order.

  • Ga Clipping.JPG Plants and flowers and beyond!

There’s much more to enjoy in your home landscape beyond the basic plants and flowers. There’s awesome music and movies galore simply provided by nature through wildlife for you. Add colors, movements, and sounds that make your home landscape appear more alive and vibrant in your quest to welcome birds and butterflies into your space.

  • Ga Clipping.JPG Summertime is fun time!

Summer will officially be here on June 21! Oh, but how it feels like it is already here with our long days and high temps. The months of June, July and August have often been referenced as the “relaxing trifecta” of summer. It is the season to get outside and enjoy everything God and mother nature has made available to us as a recreational opportunity for personal enjoyment and emotional satisfaction.
