Peggy Strickland’s kindergarten class at R.B. Wright Elementary School had a visit from their ‘Trucker Buddy’. Mike Gay, father of kindergarten student John Thomas Gay, told the class about his travels throughout the United States and Canada and explained how the trucking industry operates. Trucker Buddy International, started in 1992, educates schoolchildren via pen-pal relationships between professional truck drivers and students in grades K-8th. They write letters and share news with each other so the students’ skills in writing, reading, geography, and social studies are enhanced and learning is fun.
