MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Volunteer Firefighters Association elected a new president and vice president Thursday. The elections were to replace Billy Glass, who retired as CCVFA president in January following a six-year term, his third term as president.

Bo Sprunger was elected to the president position after serving as vice president for the last six years. He is a captain at the Funston Volunteer Fire Department and has been a volunteer firefighter for 24 years.

Sprunger said he felt honored to have been elected as CCVFA president and knows he has a big responsibility ahead of him. Serving as a volunteer firefighter for so many years, he knows the dedication the job demands.

“The volunteer fire association is a wonderful association,” Sprunger said. “It’s a super group of men and women who give of their time and have good hearts. I’d like to keep it going in that direction.”

Sprunger said he first became a volunteer firefighter in June 1986, serving with the Northside Volunteer Fire Department. He reached the rank of assistant chief there before moving to the Funston area and joining the volunteers there. He has also been working with the Moultrie Fire Department for almost five years and also works at Cranford’s Jewelry.

The job is a big one, but Sprunger said he hopes to continue to improve the CCVFA as president. He wants to continue to see it grow as it has under Glass’ leadership.

“I hope I can live up to everyone’s expectations,” Sprunger said. “I’ll sure give it a good try.”

Jabo Knight, chief of the Funston Volunteer Fire Department, was elected to replace Sprunger as vice president. He has been a volunteer firefighter for 17 years and is the owner and operator of Knight’s Pump Service.

Also chosen to CCVFA positions Thursday were Nikie Brady as secretary and Russell Moody, a former CCVFA president, as treasurer.
