Stephen A. McMath



LEESBURG, Ga. — Stephen A. McMath, 50, of Leesburg, Ga., died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at 4 p.m., in Walden Chapel at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mike McAfee with officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Born in Fredericksburg, Va., he had resided in Leesburg, Ga. for the past twelve years moving from Americus, Ga. He was the son of a United States Marine and grew up all over the world. While living in Okinawa, Japan he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Auburn High School and went on to get both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Auburn University. He was a teacher with the Sumter Co. School System for twenty eight years. He was a former president of the Americus Jaycees and was a life long member. He was a Georgia Jaycees Rebel Corp Commander and colonel, a Georgia Jaycees Congress member and a writer for the Georgia Jaycees newsletter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Lynn Gibbs McMath; and his mother, Jane Almy McMath.

Survivors include his father, James B. McMath of Trenton, Ga.; a sister, Sue Ellen McMath of Trenton, Ga.; two daughters and their husbands, Jennifer Blair (Shawn) of Powder Springs, Ga. and Kacey Harbuck (Buck) of Albany, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Emily Blair, Skyler Blair, Hannah Harbuck and Ethan Harbuck.

The family will receive friends today, March 10, from 7 until 9 p.m., at Mathews Funeral Home.
