Two injured in First Ave. collision

MOULTRIE — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on First Avenue Southeast Thursday night.

Demetrius Davis and Ricky Hallman, 18, both of Camilla, were treated and released from Colquitt Regional Medical Center Thursday, a hospital spokesperson said.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Davis, was turning onto 10th Street Southeast from First Avenue Southeast at 8:14 p.m. Thursday, Moultrie police said. At the same time, a Dodge Dynasty, driven by Randall Freeman, of 2539 Old Albany Road, was going through the intersection, and the two vehicles collided.

Following the collision, the Grand Cherokee was knocked down 10th Street Southeast and was inoperable. The Dynasty came to rest at the entrance of the Kangaroo Express, located at the intersection.

Davis told police she had entered the intersection with a green arrow, indicating she could turn without yielding. She stated the Dynasty came out of nowhere driving at a high rate of speed and collided with her Grand Cherokee. She sped up to try and clear the intersection and avoid the collision but was not able to move in time.

When the officer spoke with Freeman, however, he stated he was driving on First Avenue Southeast, and the Grand Cherokee turned in front of him. He stated he had a green light to go through the intersection.

The reporting officer was unable to determine which driver was at fault, so neither Davis nor Freeman was charged. The vehicles’ final resting spots so far from the collision scene also made it difficult to recreate the accident scene, the officer’s report said.

In a separate accident, the Georgia State Patrol has not completed its report of a two-vehicle collision Thursday night on Cool Springs Road. No information was available Friday, but a complete report is expected after the weekend.
