Car fire may be related to theft, deputies say

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a car on fire just off of Woodmen Road Thursday afternoon.

Deputies were called to a field just off of the Woodmen Road and Old Doerun Road intersection about 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The found a small vehicle on fire, and a Dodge truck was stuck in the field with a rope on it. There was no identification marks found on the burnt car, which also had a rope on it, and an empty gas can was found in the back of the pickup.

Witnesses reported seeing a gray truck leaving the area just as volunteer firefighters arrived.

A deputy later spoke with Enio Remon, and he stated a male acquaintance had left his house on 30th Avenue Northeast with Remon’s truck towing a disabled Honda car. The reporting deputy said it was not clear if the acquaintance had actually stolen the truck or had just used it to tow his own car without permission.

At the time of the report, the deputies did not know if the burned car was the Honda because they found nothing to identify it, but the incidents were being treated as related.
