Police involved in 2 chases
Staff Reports
MOULTRIE — Moultrie police officers were involved in two separate foot chases during the weekend. Officers were able to apprehend one of the suspects, but the other eluded capture.
Moses A. Jordan, 29, of 3206 Quails Lake Village Drive in Norcross, was charged with obstruction, DUI, an open container violation and a loud music violation.
An officer on patrol spotted an Oldsmobile Alero playing loud music on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at 11:33 p.m. Friday. He got behind the vehicle and tried to pull the car over, following it to the parking lot of Forrest Creek Apartments, police reports stated.
Once the Alero was stopped, the officer made contact with the driver, identified as Jordan. The officer said he smelled alcohol on Jordan, so he asked him to get out of the car and perform some field sobriety tests, which he did.
The officer said Jordan was unsteady on his feet as he got out of the car, using the vehicle to keep his balance, and he dropped his wallet without even noticing. While the officer conducted the sobriety tests, Jordan allegedly kept putting a hand into his pocket, police reports stated.
The officer told Jordan to keep his hand out of his pocket and put both his hands on his head, but Jordan allegedly put his right hand back into his pocket as he walked back to the car. The officer ordered him to take his hand out and attempted to place Jordan under arrest, but he allegedly pulled away from the officer.
Jordan tried to run from the officer, but the officer grabbed his shirt, police reports stated. Jordan then allegedly tried to punch the officer and was able to run when the officer avoided the punch. A second officer placed Jordan under arrest after he was found in a wooded area following a brief foot chase.
The officer searched the Alero following the arrest and found an open can of beer in the passenger floor board. Jordan was taken to Colquitt County Jail.
In a second incident, an officer responded to Moultrie Manor on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive about 11 p.m. Saturday about a large gathering of people. The officer saw several cars parked out in the road, and he turned on his blue lights to get the cars to move, which most did, police reports stated.
The officer saw a Chevrolet Malibu that was not moving and got out of his car to speak with the driver. As he got out, he saw a white Buick Century moving slowly toward the officer, and the Century’s driver was seen trying to get out of the car through the passenger side.
When the officer ordered the driver to stop the car, he got back into the driver’s seat and accelerated toward the officer. The was able to get back into his patrol car and avoided the Century, and another officer tried to pull over the Century, but it would not stop, police reports stated.
The first officer heard the second officer was involved in a foot pursuit over the radio, and he found the Century on Fifth Street Northwest. The car was not put in park, and it rolled down into a yard on Fourth Court Northwest and hit a black Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Century was towed from the scene, but the driver was not apprehended following the foot chase. He had not been identified by the officers at the time of the report.
