Flames claim Hartsfield home; occupants escape injuries

Staff Reports

HARTSFIELD — A house in Hartsfield was destroyed by a fire Saturday night. No one inside the house was injured however. Meanwhile, a woman injured in a mobile home fire Friday morning has returned home.

A spokesperson at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta said Linda Rogers, 47, was released Saturday after being admitted Friday morning. She was taken there for burn inhalation following a mobile home fire at 162 Pearlie Knight Lane in Doerun at 1:08 a.m. Friday.

In a second fire, a neighbor reported seeing flames coming from the house at 229 T. Davis Road in Hartsfield about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The occupants, Derrick Lamb and Jennifer Hayes, reported seeing fire in the kitchen, and he and all occupants were able to safely escape the fire. Lamb attempted to extinguish the fire using a garden hose before firefighters arrived.

Volunteer firefighters from the Bay, Funston and Hamilton Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the scene. When they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. Despite all of their efforts, the house was declared a total loss.

The Red Cross of Colquitt County was also at the scene and provided assistance to the volunteer firefighters. The Red Cross provided Lamb and the occupants with temporary shelter following the fire.
