Berlin housing units now for rent

BERLIN — The new housing units at Meadow Run Apartments in Berlin were recently completed and are available to rent.
Moultrie Leased Housing Corp. (MLHC) Director Glenda Hall said the duplex apartment buildings were completed March 31 and began being rented out on April 1. Eight of the 12 available units have been rented out as of Tuesday morning. The units are located at the intersection of Highway 133 and Cannon Road in Berlin, and they are the first units MLHC has built outside of Moultrie.
Each unit will have one, two or three bedrooms, and Hall said two two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units are available. Landscaping should be finished soon.
“It’s going to look really pretty once the grass comes in and the landscaping is complete,” Hall said.
MLHC Board Chairman Billy Fallin said the units are not subsidized housing but are being offered a little lower than fair market value. Anyone in need of housing can rent one of these units, he said.
“We’re in the business of providing housing at the lowest possible rent,” Fallin said. “We try to provide for housing needs. We are a public, non-profit corporation. Our goal is not to make money but to maintain and continue to provide housing.”
The MLHC bought about 20 acres of land for housing, and Fallin said more housing could go on the land if there is a need. Only about four acres was used to built the six duplexes that currently make up Meadow Run Apartments.
“We welcome them to Berlin,” Berlin Mayor Dale Williams said when the housing was being planned. “It will be a good thing for the city, and we hope everything is as good as (the leased housing corporation) say it is.”
Hall said anyone who is interested in renting one of the remaining four houses can call MLHC at 985-4162.
