MOULTRIE — R.B. Wright Elementary saddled up the school and headed out to Hancock Arena Thursday morning for a rodeo exhibition.
First grade teacher Bonnie Kirkley said the exhibition was to celebrate the school’s reading program. The school celebrated its “Reading Rodeo” this year with a variety of rodeo events.
Several students from Colquitt County High School showed the kids how to tie a goat and rope a calf, Kirkley said. The students were also treated to the comedy stylings of Dum Dum the clown, portrayed by Sean Cooper.
The high school students and a couple of teachers from R.B. Wright demonstrated barrel racing. Several teachers took on a calf during a calf scramble. The calf won, but one of the teachers pulled a bandana off its tail and won a Wal-Mart gift card.
Kirkley said the students were at the arena because of their reading accomplishments during the school year. After leaving Hancock Arena, they were treated to a sack lunch at the school.
“This is what the kids get for working so hard,” Kirkley said.
