Pelham shooting suspect caught in Moultrie
Staff Reports
MOULTRIE — Following a tip, South Georgia law enforcement captured a shooting suspect Wednesday in Moultrie.
William Lamar Vicks, 27, was wanted in connection with the shooting of Christopher Edwards, 22, in Pelham Saturday.
Edwards, who was shot in the chest, remains in the hospital, according to a WALB-TV news report, but he is expected to recover.
At the time of the shooting, Pelham police indicated Vicks had family in Moultrie and Grady County, according to a report on walb.com. On Wednesday morning, a Moultrian who had seen Vicks’ picture on the Albany television station’s news report told Pelham police he had seen him here.
Vicks was arrested at the home of a relative on Third Street Northwest. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Citing Pelham police, reports on walb.com stated that four men were driving on Love Street in Pelham Saturday morning when two of them got into an argument. Edwards tried to intervene and was shot. The reports say Vicks also fired at another person, then he held the car’s driver at gunpoint and forced him to take him to East Railroad Street. The car parked behind a house there, and Vicks fled, walb.com said.
