Two charged in bus wreck

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — A bus with several children aboard collided with a car at the intersection of South Veterans Parkway and Tallokas Road Thursday evening. The drivers of both vehicles involved were placed under arrest.

Mario Fuentez, 28, of 609 Sharon Church Road in Omega, was charged with driving without a license and failure to yield while turning left. Juan Hernandez, 37, of 173 Ewer Road, was charged with driving without a license.

Fuentez was driving a 1983 school bus, which he owns, according to the Moultrie police report. He was turning left from Veterans Parkway onto Tallokas Road at 6:21 p.m. Thursday. As the bus was making the turn, it collided with a Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Hernandez. The bus was carrying 14 children between 4 and 7 years old, and the Grand Prix had three passengers in it.

During the investigation, officers found neither Fuentez nor Hernandez had a driver’s license, so they were placed under arrest.

One passenger in the Grand Prix, Juan Deleon, 45, of 1331 Highway 133 S., complained of an injury; police said he was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center. A hospital spokesperson said, however, he was not listed as being brought there.
