ALBANY, Ga. — According to the Georgia Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Labor, careers in the healthcare sector will create more new jobs than any other sector in the United States. With this in mind, a three-day health careers camp, known as MICRO Camp (Medicine Is Creating Real Opportunities), will be held July 14-16 in Moultrie.

The camp is a collaborative project between Moultrie Technical College, Colquitt Regional Medical Center and Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center (SOWEGA-AHEC).

MICRO Camp will consist of hands-on activities, job shadowing and special speakers.

“We offer MICRO Camps to create awareness among high school students about career opportunities in healthcare,” said Lakecia Pettway, health careers recruiter for SOWEGA-AHEC.

“Students know about doctors and nurses but they don’t usually know about careers like health information technician, medical technologist and biomedical engineer,” she said. “Some health professionals work directly with patients, some health professionals never see a patient, working behind the scenes. There are so many opportunities in the healthcare field.”

The MICRO Camp will take place at Moultrie Tech and Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Students must provide their own transportation. There is a fee of $25 to participate. This fee pays for a T-shirt and lunches. For more information about MICRO Camp, contact Pettway at (229) 439-7185.
