MOULTRIE — The driver who struck a bicyclist week will not face any criminal charges in the accident in which a Moultrie man was fatally injured, the Georgia State Patrol said Thursday.

Brandy Apperson, 23, of Norman Park, could not have avoided the bicyclist, who crossed the road in front of the 1993 Honda Accord she was driving, state patrol reports said.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 p.m. on June 3.

Apperson was driving north on West Central Avenue when Mark Zeigler, 34, drove into the path of the vehicle, the spokeswoman said. Zeigler was riding north, crossing the street, when he was struck by the front end of the car.

On Tuesday, Zeigler’s friends and family members held a candlelight on West Central Avenue to remember him.

A relative who attended the ceremony said that the family has questions about the accident.

Zeigler was hearing-impaired but was always cautions while riding his bicycle, she said.

“We want to know whether anything is going to be done,” said the relative, who did not wish to give her name. “We were holding the vigil because we want people to pray for us and we want justice. The main thing is he was our family member and we just want justice.

“We wanted people to know it’s somebody’s son gone, somebody’s cousin, somebody’s brother. We’re just seeking help and answers, that’s all.”

About 40 people attended the ceremony.

The state patrol is awaiting alcohol test results for the driver and Zeigler, but at this time no charges are expected in the case, the spokeswoman said.
