MOULTRIE — Three people face a variety of charges after they allegedly were involved in a fight early Tuesday morning.
Jason Boyd, 34, of 122 Railroad St. in Berlin, was charged with battery and public drunkenness. Justin Howard, 18, of 266 Indian Lake Drive in Norman Park, was charged with battery, public drunkenness and illegal possession of alcohol. Katie Harrell, 22, of 2 Bracken Drive, was charged with public drunkenness.
An officer was called to Bishop’s convenience store on Third Avenue Southeast about 4:10 a.m. Tuesday about a man who had been assaulted. The officer spoke with Jason Sammons, who stated he had been assaulted by two men somewhere near Third Avenue Southeast and Seventh Street Southeast and gave the name of two male suspects.
A second officer patrolled the area where the alleged assault took place and found Boyd, Howard and Harrell. When the officer walked up to speak with the three, they allegedly tried to get rid of beer they were drinking at the time, the police report stated.
When other officers met up with Boyd, Howard and Harrell, Harrell allegedly told the officer a fight broke out between Boyd, Howard and Sammons, and the two men allegedly admitted they were involved in the altercation. The three were arrested and were taken to Colquitt County Jail.
Sammons was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center with three cracked ribs and a bruised kidney from the incident. A hospital spokesperson said he was treated for his injuries and released Tuesday.
