Colquitt County's first 'Go Red for Women' luncheon
Staff Reports
MOULTRIE — “Go Red for Women” is coming soon to Moultrie and Colquitt County. The “Go Red for Women” luncheon benefiting the American Heart Association will be held June 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sunset Country Club in Moultrie. This is an opportunity for the women of Moultrie and Colquitt County to come together and learn about the disease that takes so many lives.
Mark Ballard, an artist, author, decorator and designer from Macon, will be the entertainment for the event. “Mark Ballard is a talented artist with wonderful sense of humor that will leave everyone with a smile on their face,” AHA Regional Director Brenda Herring said. “You will definitely not want to miss this event!”
This is the first “Go Red for Women” Luncheon ever held here in Colquitt County.
“Heart disease and stroke used to be called the ‘Man’s disease,’ however in the last 20 to 30 years more and more women are having to become part of the American work force due to the need of a two-income in the family household to make ends meet,” Herring said. “Women with a full time job still have to deal with the same duties of a household before the job came along. Women do not have the time to cook nutritious meals and settle for fast food, too tired to do any exercise or do not have the time to do so, and the stress of the job creates even more problems, all are factors that lead to heart disease.”
“We want to show the ladies how much we care about them by educating and informing them of the signs and symptoms of heart disease and ways to prevent it,” she said. “We are encouraging all businesses and merchants to show the women of their employment how important they are to them by sponsoring the event or sponsoring a table for their employees If this information will save one life, it will be worth it.”
Colquitt Regional Medical Center has been a major supporter.
“We feel strongly about the importance of this program and feel that every woman in Moultrie and Colquitt County should be made aware of this information,” stated Robin Tillman of Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
“Colquitt Regional Medical Center as presenting sponsor of the luncheon has a made a generous donation to support this,” Herring said.
“Colquitt Regional Medical Center has been incredible in every way to make this event come about,” she said. “Dr. David Waller, local cardiologist has graciously agreed to speak at the luncheon on ‘Heart Disease and Women.’ Moultrie and Colquitt County are very fortunate to have their own cardiologist locally to provide them with wonderful cardiac care and for Dr. Waller to take the time from hectic schedule to speak and answer questions, speaks volumes about his care and concern for the community.”
