MOULTRIE — Three men were charged with robberies related to two separate incidents over the weekend — just a part of lengthy crime report.

John Lemuel Godfrey, 28, of 464 Brice St. in Berlin, and Daniel Earl Boyd, 38, of 85 Smith St. in Berlin, were each charged with armed robbery early Sunday morning.

Police officers and Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies were at the sheriff’s office on Veterans Parkway at 12:39 a.m. Sunday when a vehicle stopped in the road. Jimmy Meyers got out of the vehicle and told the officers and deputies that people in the car that was in front of him allegedly had just robbed him at gunpoint.

An officer caught up with the suspect Ford Crown Victoria at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and First Avenue Southeast and pulled it over at the former Ember’s Restaurant parking lot. While there, Meyers came to the scene and positively identified Godfrey and Boyd as the two men who had been involved in the alleged robbery, police reports stated. A third man in the Crown Victoria was released.

Meyers told the officers Boyd allegedly stole $425 cash from him at gunpoint while he was at Northgate Apartments on Fourth Avenue Northeast. Boyd and Godfrey, the alleged driver, fled the scene in the Crown Victoria, and Meyers followed them until he reached the sheriff’s office, the report stated.

Before the Crown Victoria was pulled over, it reportedly slowed down, so the officers and deputies searched the area where it was first spotted. The search turned up a Lorcin handgun that appears to have been thrown onto the road, authorities said. Godfrey and Boyd were placed under arrest and were taken to Colquitt County Jail.

In a second incident, Charles Calhoun Jr., 41, of 1708 First Ave. S.E., Room 121, was charged with robbery by sudden snatching and aggravated assault.

Officers were called to the Waffle House on First Avenue Southeast at 3:18 a.m. Saturday about someone who had been robbed. They spoke with Jacqueline Irving, and she stated Calhoun grabbed her purse and hit her in the head with an unknown object, the police report stated. The value of the purse and its contents was $423. Calhoun was placed under arrest Saturday afternoon and was taken to Colquitt County Jail.
