Moultrie man dies in Valdosta crash

VALDOSTA — A 22-year-old Moultrie man died Wednesday in a vehicle crash in Valdosta.

Valdosta Police Commander Brian Childress said witnesses described the victim, identified as Joshua Broom, as traveling at a high rate of speed in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck down Jerry Jones Drive.

“According to witnesses, at 10:58 p.m. Wednesday, Broom’s truck sideswiped a 2005 Ford F150, which was stopped at a stop sign at Jerry Jones and Lake Drive,” Childress said.

Childress said the vehicle then flipped and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene,” Childress said.

“We will not rule out alcohol being involved at this time,” he said, adding that blood has been obtained for toxicology tests.

“This remains an ongoing investigation,” said Childress.

Childress was a 2005 graduate of Colquitt County High School and a student at South Georgia College in Valdosta.
