MOULTRIE — A Norman Park man faces several charges after he was allegedly involved in a string of incidents Saturday morning.

Jackie Samuel Payne, 27, of 362 Yogi Bear Road in Norman Park, was charged with burglary, theft by taking a motor vehicle and escape.

Moultrie police were called to the Quick Mart on the West Bypass about 4:30 a.m. Saturday about an alarm. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle had rammed through the front doors, but a search did not find anyone inside.

Upon a review of security footage, officers determined the vehicle used was a white car.

Later, Hope Burch, of Seventh Street Southeast, reported Payne had visited her house and allegedly stolen her white Buick Century about 4 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Burch told officers Payne allegedly took the car keys and started the engine when she jumped onto the hood to stop him. Payne allegedly drove away, almost running over Burch as he left, and Burch found her son’s Sony PlayStation and 20 PlayStation games were gone. The games were later returned, police said.

Payne was found and placed under arrest on Ninth Avenue Southeast about 8:20 a.m. Saturday, but police said he put up a fight on the way to Colquitt County Jail. Payne allegedly began to thrash around the back seat then began to kick one of the rear windows.

When the officer arrived at the jail, Payne allegedly swung at him with an open handcuff and began to run away. He was caught by the officer and three Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies and was booked into the jail.

Following Payne’s arrest, Rodney Smith reported he found a thief had stolen a JVC CD player from his Ford Ranger while it was parked at Dairy Queen on First Avenue Southeast. Payne allegedly had a JVC CD player on him when he was arrested, and Smith positively identified it as being his, police said.
