Blaze destroys house

Staff Reports

NORMAN PARK — A vacant house on U.S. Highway 319 North in Norman Park was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

Volunteer firefighters from the Northside, Norman Park, Ellenton, Southside and New Elm volunteer fire departments were called to the house about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, firefighters found the house, located near the Sam Rentz Road intersection, fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control about one and a half hours after arriving at the scene. Despite the firefighter’s efforts, the house was declared a total loss. No one at the scene, however, reported being injured.

The cause of the fire was unknown, and an investigation into the cause of the fire was turned over to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.
