7:15 p.m. update: Haggins to leave Moultrie council; Berlin seats up for grabs

Qualifying for November's municipal elections ended Friday with changes guaranteed in Moultrie, Berlin and Funston.

Moultrie City Councilwoman Betty Haggins did not seek to keep her seat, and four other residents qualified to try to take her place.

In Berlin, former police chief Jerry Evers qualified against incumbent mayor Dale Williams, and four people qualified for two open, at-large council seats.

Funston will not hold an election, but will see a change in the council. Councilman Gary Strickland did not seek to keep his seat. Incumbent Councilman Gene Potts and challenger Doug Hall did qualify for two open, at-large seats, and Mayor Ferrell Ruis was the only one qualifying for the mayor's seat.

For more information, read Saturday's Moultrie Observer or return to www.moultrieobserver.com after midnight.
