MOULTRIE — Two men remained in jail Wednesday, charged with the slaying of Marques Thornton of Moultrie on Monday.

A Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said Wednesday evening that bond has not been set for Richard Lebon Revels Jr., 21, of 3224 Hall Road in Thomasville, or for Gregory Lamont Denton, 31, of 218 S. Main St. in Barwick.

Revels is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Denton is charged with murder, aggravated assault and a parole violation.

Colquitt County Interim Coroner Kevin Wimberly said an autopsy Wednesday showed Thornton, 32, of 510 First Ave. S.W., died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Dramourno Jones, of 410 E. Central Ave., was wounded in the same incident. Jones was admitted to Colquitt Regional Medical Center after the shooting. His condition was not released Tuesday, and a CRMC official did not return a call seeking that information Wednesday evening.

Moultrie police were called to Jones’ residence about 11 p.m. Monday, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents were summoned at 11:53 p.m., according to Ronnie Thompson of the GBI.

When GBI agents arrived, Thompson said, they found Thornton lying dead in the yard. Jones had been shot in the leg.

Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Wimberly said.

A relative of Jones said she was awakened by the gunfire and as bullets went through the house. She ran outside and saw Thornton lying dead on the ground, but she did not see who had been shooting at the house because of a tree in the yard.

“All we were trying to do was stay out of the way,” she said.

It was the first homicide of 2008 for the city of Moultrie.
