Man charged with DUI after wreck

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — A Norman Park man faces multiple charges after he allegedly was involved in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night while driving drunk.

Major Lanard Bryant, 24, of 1330 Highway 319 N., Lot 94, in Norman Park, was charged with DUI (second offense), driving with a suspended license (second offense) and an open container violation.

An officer spotted an accident at the intersection of Fifth Avenue Southeast and Port Street at 9:23 p.m. Saturday. When the officer arrived, he saw three men getting out of a Chevrolet TrailBlazer that was involved in the accident and went to make sure none of them were injured.

As the officer approached the TrailBlazer, he allegedly smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the three men. The officer went to a Chevrolet Caprice to check the other driver, Cynthia Pinking, of 1121 Ninth St. S.W., for injuries and found she had an injury to her head that was bleeding. She was checked out at the scene by Colquitt County EMS.

A second officer arrived at the scene, and both officers spoke with the three men, who identified themselves. As the officer was closing the rear door of the TrailBlazer, he allegedly spotted an open bottle of beer and asked which of the three men were driving. Bryant stated that he was driving after all three initially denied they had been driving.

One of the officers had Bryant blow into an intoxilyzer, and police said it tested positive for alcohol. Bryant was then placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt County Jail, and the other two men were given citations for an open container violation.
