Staff Reports

BERLIN — It’s that time of year again, the Berlin Cotton Festival will be held this Saturday, from 9 a.m. until, at the Berlin City Park, behind city hall.

There will be vendors, food and drinks, and activities for the kids including a jump house. There will also be a silent auction from 4 to 5 p.m., a cake auction from 5 to 6 p.m. and raffle tickets sold throughout the day. Individuals do not have to be present to win the two drawings, each for a $100 Visa card.

The entertainment for the day will include the Daddy’s Pride Cloggers at 9:30 a.m.; Crossing 47 at noon; Seeds of Faith at 6 p.m.; and Triple Vision will play for the street dance starting at 8 p.m.

The Cotton Parade, which will include the Miss Cotton queens who were crowned last Saturday at Withers Auditorium, will start at 2 p.m. Entries for the parade are still being accepted.

New to the festival this year will be the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Firehouse Flamer’s Barbecue Cook-off, which will be judged at 3 p.m. Categories will include sauce, Boston butts, ribs and chicken. The participants will also be selling some of their meats during the festival.

Also new to the festival is the Berlin’s Got Talent contest, which will be held at 4 p.m. and includes all ages. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, and entries will still be accepted on Saturday for the event. Entry forms can also be picked up at Berlin City Hall.

There will be no alcoholic beverages allowed on the premises of the Berlin Cotton Festival.
