MOULTRIE — A Moultrie police officer shot a dog that was overly aggressive early Friday morning.
An officer was called to a house on Hutchinson Drive at 2:09 a.m. Friday about dogs barking. He was told by an anonymous person that one of his dogs had gotten loose from his chain and was attacking another of his dogs, which remained chained.
The officer felt the dog could turn on him or the homeowner at any moment and was not responding to commands, so he notified his supervisor of the situation. The supervisor agreed the only way to control the dog, since it was unchained and acting violently, was to shoot it.
The officer fired one shot at the dog’s hind quarters, and the dog backed away from the other dog and laid down. The dog being attacked was able to get away, running underneath the porch. The dog acting violently was able to only get up briefly before lying back down.
The Humane Society of Colquitt County took custody of the wounded dog.
