Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — Three people, including two juveniles, were apprehended after they allegedly stole more than $1,000 in various items early Thursday morning.

Darius Khiry Mitchell, 18, of 211 Glem Drive in Thomasville, and two Thomas County boys, ages 15 and 16, were each charged with theft by shoplifting. Mitchell was also charged with illegal possession of alcohol and DUI under the age of 21.

An officer was called to Wal-Mart on South Veterans Parkway at 4:18 a.m. Thursday about the alleged theft. Meanwhile, a Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy reported he had pulled over a Chevrolet S-10 truck on Veterans Parkway and found the alleged stolen items in its bed.

An employee at Wal-Mart reported a Phillips universal DVR remote control, a Cobra radar detector, a Polaroid DVD player, a Samsung television, a Vizio 22-inch television and a Sony mini Hi-Fi system were stolen. The value of the stolen items was about $1,139, and all items were returned following the traffic stop.

During the traffic stop, one of the responding officers allegedly smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the driver, identified as Mitchell. He was given a breath-alcohol test at the scene, and it came back positive for alcohol.

Mitchell was placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt County Jail, and the two juveniles were taken to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office then to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Thomasville.
