Student charged with drugs at CCHS

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — A Colquitt County High School student was accused Oct. 3 of having marijuana onto the campus, the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a public school.

A Colquitt County School Resource Officer was called to the high school assistant principal’s office about 11 a.m. Oct. 3. Kevin Giddens, the assistant principal, had the boy in his office and showed the SRO a bag containing alleged marijuana. The boy stated he had bought the suspected marijuana from an unknown black male for $5.

A Colquitt County drug agent came to the school, and a field test confirmed the material was marijuana, the CCSO said. Giddens stated he wanted to press charges, and the boy was taken into custody. The SRO contacted the Department of Juvenile Justice, who told him to release the boy to his father.
