Grant will help CNS upgrade Doerun, Funston schools

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — The City of Moultrie/CNS recently received notification from the United States Department of Education that a grant in the amount of $94,690 has been awarded for the purpose of enhancing fiber connectivity to Doerun and Funston elementary schools.

The grant will allow for upgrades at both schools that will bridge the gap for the antiquated T1 system that no longer meets the demands of computer labs, video teleconferencing and data transmissions, a city press release said. The project’s objective will be to enhance the Colquitt County School System’s network design by increasing bandwidth.

City Manager Mike Scott said, “Without this grant, this project would not have happened for several years and our schools would be in risk of lacking behind in broadband capabilities. CNS is happy to partner with the Colquitt County School System to make this project happen.”

The city has applied for additional funding to upgrade Hamilton Elementary and hopes to receive the grant in 2010, according to the press release.
