Pond scum may have bright future

Lori Glenn

“This is a big deal for a couple of reasons. If you put CO2 in (a contained growth chamber), the algae will grow better, otherwise you’re getting the CO2 from air, which is about at .03 percent. If you put something in from a diesel generator output, you raise that to 10 percent, and algae can grow like that,” he said, snapping his fingers.

Plus, Das thinks that carbon dioxide output will soon become regulated. The U.S. Supreme Court has already determined it a pollutant and gave the Environmental Protection Agency the authority to regulate it, he said.

“They have not started doing it yet, but it’s going to happen in the next couple of years,” he said.
