MOULTRIE — The arrest Thursday of a Colquitt County man solved three burglaries, and the investigation recovered more than $6,000 in stolen goods taken in those thefts, a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator said.

Clint Lamar Hancock, 28, 3446 Lower Meigs Road, is accused of burglaries that occurred in October on Tallokas Trail, Old Tram Road and Lower Meigs Road, Sgt. Jason Thompson said. Hancock also is a suspect in as many as 12 additional burglaries in which lawn equipment and power tools were taken.

“He’s suspected in doing several more,” Thompson said. “More charges will be filed on him with the grand jury. We’ve been investigating this over two months.”

Hancock was charged Thursday with three counts of burglary. The burglaries for which he is accused occurred in mid-October.

Some of the stolen goods were recovered in local pawn shops, which have cooperated with the investigation, Thompson said. The investigation could lead to additional arrests.

“We’ve recovered probably $6,000 or $7,000 worth of equipment so far,” he said. “We are looking at some other folks in this.”

In some cases items were recovered before the owners had noticed them missing and filed a report, Thompson said.

One hindrance in returning stolen goods is the lack of identifying serial numbers, he said.

“We’re having problems finding the owners of some of this stuff,” he said.

Thompson recommended that owners of lawn equipment and power tools write down the serial numbers so they can be returned to them in the case they are recovered in a theft investigation.

Hancock’s bond was set this week at $15,000. He had not been released as of Friday afternoon.
