Woman stabbed 25 times

John Oxford

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie woman was listed in stable condiion at Colquitt Regional Medical Center Monday afternoon after she was brutally stabbed early Sunday morning. Authorities said she suffered at least 25 wounds.

The man who allegedly stabbed her surrendered to authorities later Sunday morning.

Alvin Arnold, 29, of 710 Ninth Ave. S.E., was charged with aggravated assault. Colquitt County Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Shannon Hart said there may be additional charges.

A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy was called to Oakdale Baptist Church on Sumner Road at 4:19 a.m. Sunday about a possible stabbing. The deputy met with Karen Hiers, who stated she found Janneka Hamilton, 27, and that she had been stabbed several times.

The deputy said Hamilton was lying on a porch face down in a pool of blood. He rolled her onto her back and found that she had several stab wounds to her upper body, her throat had been slashed, and she had several wounds on the right side of her face. Hart said she was stabbed about 25 times.

The deputy then began to speak with Hamilton, who stated Arnold picked her up and drove her to the church. He allegedly began stabbing her with a knife while they were still inside the car before he shoved her out and fled the scene.

Hamilton stated she rolled and crawled from the church to a nearby house for assistance, which is where Hiers met her and called 911. She was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center by Colquitt County EMS, and a hospital spokesperson said she was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon. Hart said she was in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The deputy found blood in the church’ parking lot, along with a bloody coat. Hart said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
