Multiple charges filed in slaying

John Oxford

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man faces several charges in connection with the shooting of another man who later died Saturday morning.

Andre Duvar Richardson, 45, of 202 Sixth St. S.W., was charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation.

Moultrie Police Investigator Cpl. Dave Underwood said Richardson allegedly shot Curtis Lee Coasey Jr., 29, multiple times on Third Avenue Northwest about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Coasey later died at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, according to a death notice from Luke Strong and Son Mortuary, which is handling arrangements.

The shooting took place a short distance from where another fatal shooting took place in 2007, Underwood said. Jakira Strong, 21, was shot and killed at Aldridge Grocery at 400 Third Ave. N.W. on Dec. 31, 2007.

Underwood said the Moultrie Police Department was working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the case. He believes the partnership with the GBI allowed the arrest of Richardson to take place so soon after the alleged shooting took place. Richardson was placed under arrest at 9:59 a.m. Saturday at a house on Hutchinson Drive.

Coasey is the third person murdered in Colquitt County in 2009 after one person was murdered in 2008. Joshua Morey, 27, of Sale City, was shot and killed March 30 at a house on Edmondson Road, and Perez Barcenas, 41, of 177 Cherry Ave., was found shot and killed in a driveway on Sardis Church Road April 25.
