MOULTRIE — Two women were apprehended after they allegedly tried to steal several pieces of clothing and abandoned a shopping cart with two children inside it Tuesday afternoon.
Ladonna Johnson, of 1487 Big Creek Road in Meigs, and Chiquita Williams, of 2037 Catfish Lane in Pelham, were each charged with theft by shoplifting and reckless conduct.
Moultrie police officers were called to Wal-Mart on South Veterans Parkway at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday about possible shoplifters. An employee reported seeing two women, later identified as Williams and Johnson, allegedly take several clothing items and walk out of the store. The two women were pushing a shopping cart with two children inside at the time of the alleged incident.
When the employee approached Johnson and Williams, they allegedly left the shopping cart and attempted to flee the scene. A witness told officers the shopping cart continued to roll and nearly struck a vehicle in the parking lot.
Johnson and Williams were placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt County Jail, and the two children were turned over to a family member. The value of the clothing they allegedly tried to steal was $170.
