Tech campus will simulate disaster

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — Students at the Moultrie Technical College Veterans Parkway campus will have to dodge victims of a catastrophe Wednesday. No one involved, however, will actually be injured or fallen ill.

The Southwest Georgia Public Health Department will be using the campus for an emergency preparedness training drill. The drill will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, and will have at least three rotations, lasting into the afternoon. It is part of training courses being held from Monday until Thursday.

Southwest Georgia Public Health Department Public Information Officer Carolyn Maschke said the training is to help emergency responders prepare for an actual emergency. Workers will train as in life support if there was a terrorist attack, pandemic outbreak or any other type of man-made or natural disaster.

Activity for the exercise will begin prior to the beginning of the actual event, Maschke said. The “victims” will spend time preparing for the exercise by getting their “injuries” or “wounds” ready for the drill.

“The drill is aimed at helping response teams be as prepared as possible for a disaster,” Maschke said. “This is all about a mass casualty event.”
