Deputies catch man who ran after shots reported

Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man was apprehended after he allegedly ran from Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies responding to a call Tuesday night.

Shaventreon Shannon, 19, of 211 11th Ave. S.E., was charged with obstruction.

Deputies were called to Sylvester Drive and 30th Avenue Northwest at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday about shots being fired in the area. As one deputy was responding to the call, he spotted a man, later identified as Shannon, walking near the area where the shots were reported from, and a second deputy was asked to speak with the man.

As the second deputy went to speak with him, Shannon allegedly ran down Sylvester Drive toward North Main Street. The deputy began chasing after him on foot while the first deputy turned around in an attempt to cut Shannon off before he reached North Main Street.

When the first deputy arrived, Shannon allegedly crossed over North Main Street and ran to the Fuller’s Restaurant location. The deputies cut Shannon off near the drive-thru area, and he was placed under arrest and taken to Colquitt County Jail.

Following the pursuit, a .38-caliber bullet was allegedly found in Shannon’s backpack, so the second deputy went back over the chase route. He found a Burgo .38-caliber revolver in bushes near where Shannon was apprehended, and the revolver was collected as evidence.
