Two charged with gambling
Staff Reports
MOULTRIE — Two men were apprehended after they allegedly were seen gambling outside Wednesday night.
Johnny Louis Downs, 40, of 835 Shy Manor Drive, Apt. 2, and Juarez Clark, 29, of 820 Northside Drive, Apt. 4, were each charged with loitering and gambling. Downs was also charged with drinking alcohol in public, and Clark was also charged with duty to obey an officer and failure to appear, which was in connection with a Tift County warrant.
Several Moultrie police officers performing a special patrol at Shy Manor Apartments on Northside Drive spotted a group of males sitting in a breezeway at 8:51 p.m. Wednesday. As the officers went to speak to the six men, they allegedly spotted folded paper money underneath playing cards stacked in the middle of the group. Some of the men were also allegedly drinking quart-size bottles of beer, and an officer asked them what they were doing.
One of the men got up and went into an apartment while three of the men allegedly ran away when an officer asked for identification. One of the officers caught one of the men, identified as Clark, and placed him under arrest.
While the officers were searching Clark, another man, identified as Downs, walked up and was recognized as one of the six men allegedly gambling. An officer asked for his name before he was also placed under arrest, and a search of both men found Clark allegedly had an outstanding warrant from Tift County. Both men were then taken to Colquitt County Jail.
