Doerun to kick off Christmas season Saturday

DOERUN — It will be snowing in Doerun on Saturday as the city celebrates its annual Christmas in the Park.

The Doerun Boosters also will unveil a new 26-foot giant fir tree topped with a four-foot dimensional nativity star. The tree will be the center of attention for the celebration in Veterans Park, which will run from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Children can play in a large area that will be filled with snow, and there also will be horse and carriage rides. A sweet shop will be sponsored by the Doerun Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, and food and drinks provided by Pa’s Truck and Soles for Souls.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will arrive at 6 p.m. on a horse-drawn carriage and will be available for visits in the Santa House, where pictures will be made free of charge.

Entertainment will be provided by Brook Pate, Buffy Hall, Danny Williamson and Brenda, Zach Stephan and Ryan Chatman, all from Doerun along with the Doerun Elementary School Choir and the R.C. and Angie Cook family from Ty Ty. Kirsten Underwood and Little Creek will perform from 6 to 7 p.m.

The Doerun Boosters are also sponsoring a holiday decorating contest for the houses within the city limits of Doerun.
