PAVO — A love for motorcycles and extreme sports has been passed down to brothers Cody and Kyle Ives.

Shawn Ives, the brother’s father, said he has been doing motorcycle stunt shows for 22 years. He got into motorcycle stunts while walking the high-wire and riding horses in the circus and developed a passion for it. He passed that passion onto his sons Cody, 16, and Kyle, 14.

Cody said he and Kyle have been riding dirt bikes all their lives, and they are the world’s youngest motorcycle stunt team. Cody holds the Guinness world record for the youngest professional motorcycle stunt rider when he became a professional at 9 years old.

The Ives brothers perform motorcycle stunts doing jumps on ramps and in the 12-foot tall Globe of Death, Shawn said. The stunt shows typically feature three to four riders total, including Cody and Kyle, and they have performed all over the world, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Caribbean and Canada, and they will be heading to Japan.

Shawn said the family is originally from Sarasota, Fla., but fell in love with South Georgia performing at monster truck shows and fairs in Thomasville and at Wild Adventures in Valdosta. After performing around the world with motorcycle stuntmen like Evel Knievel and Travis Pastrana, the family settled into a house in Pavo about four years ago.

“We came here to South Georgia after we found some good property,” Shawn said.

Being constantly on the road sometimes gets to be too much, Cody said, but the team finds time for a break when they need one. On those breaks, they get to get involved in a variety of other sports like skiing and hunting.

“We love (the life we have),” Cody said. “We wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Spending so much time on the road gives the team a chance to practice before shows, Cody said. They do practice stunts in their off time and in Adel when they are home.

In addition to doing motorcycle stunt shows, Shawn said the family has been involved in other projects for television. Shawn’s wife, Tanya, took part in an episode of “Wife Swap” that aired in May, and the family will be filming for the A&E Network’s “Magnificent Obsession” in January. Both shows took place at the family’s home in Pavo.
