MOULTRIE — Lee Wingfield follows the leading of the Lord as he reaches out to those in need in the community.

Wingfield, a double amputee, said he and his wife Vernita began the Lord Anointed Word Ministry in 2004. It is an outreach ministry where all proceeds from it are given right back to the community in various ways.

The ministry reaches out to anyone and everyone in need of support and company during tough times, Wingfield said. He and his wife deliver Jesus teddy bears and balloons to patients at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, care packages to those in nursing homes and fruit baskets to the elderly and shut-ins.

Whenever he goes to Colquitt Regional, Wingfield said he deliberately seeks out those people who have few or no visitors during their hospital stay. He does that because those without family and friends nearby are in need of love just as much as those with many visitors.

“Love is the key to healing,” Wingfield said. “If you don’t experience love, it’s hard to heal.”

Wingfield said he gives the gifts to patients in the name of Jesus after being led by the Holy Spirit to start the ministry. He does not, however, force his faith on patients but offers to pray with them and for them if asked.

In addition to the ministry to the sick, Wingfield said he also reaches out to the children in the community. He will give them a “Jesus dollar,” but only with the permission of a parent.

“I want to do what God has called me to do,” Wingfield said. “I am trying to create an avenue to the body of Christ. All I’m trying to do is get them back into a covenant with God.”

Wingfield said the ministry is also in the process of creating T-shirts that can be used like Gospel tracts. The shirts have a picture on the front, such as a Bible pouring milk into a glass, with the Scripture being referenced on the back of it.

After going through some tough times of healing on his own, Wingfield said he knows in the power of healing. He was hit by a train and left on the tracks for about two hours 22 years ago and survived, and he also suffered a stroke in 1995. After both of those incidents, he knows he is a miracle of God.“I am being an example through my affliction,” Wingfield said.

The goal of the Lord Anointed Word Ministry is to reach out to the entire world, but Wingfield said it is hampered by limited resources. He hopes to reach out to the churches in the community to allow him to continue the ministry and allow it to grow throughout Colquitt County and eventually to the entire world.

Wingfield said he also plans to use his time as a volunteer host at radio station WHBS 1400 AM as a platform. He hopes to be able to find listeners going to visit the hospital or nursing homes to continue the ministry. He plans to get people making visits to call the station and take a teddy bear or balloon to someone they do not know during the visit.

“My time here is strictly about the Word of God,” Wingfield said. “I am a servant of the Lord. I talk about the love of the Lord wherever I go.”
