Calico Arts and Crafts Show set for this weekend

MOULTRIE — With spring in the air, its that time once again ... arts and crafts, arts and crafts.

The Calico Spring Arts and Crafts Show will be held Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, at the Sunbelt Expo on Spence Field.

“The days are getting longer and there’s no better way to spend those moments than at the Calico Spring Arts and Crafts Show,” said Gina McDonald, director of marketing and public relations for the Sunbelt Expo.

About 200 vendors featuring fine arts, handmade crafts, and hand decorated items will be exhibited at this year’s event. These vendors are chosen from craftsmen and creative artisans both locally and across the country.

“From ornamental iron home and garden décor, to painted glass and antiques, to whimsical painted children’s furniture and accessories ... It’s all together in one location,” McDonald said.

Some of the featured artists for the show include Brenda Tustian from Ball Ground, Ga., Kathy Brown from Wedowee, Ala., and Carmen Breeden of Moultrie.

Tustian specializes in portraying tradition and “American values” in her fine art prints, Christmas cards, and hand-crafted ornaments. One of her most popular items are her “heirloom” Santa paintings, with each print seeming to tell its own individual story.

“Featuring hand-crafted ornaments, uniquely yours, it’s no wonder why she continues to flourish as one of Georgia’s foremost and most accomplished artists,” states Tustian’s website.

Brown is part of a mother-daughter combination who partner together to create special outfits, dresses, and much more that seem to be a must-have for little girls.

A favorite booth year after year, said McDonald, is Moultrie’s own Breeden, who incorporates as much of nature into her products as possible. She uses twigs, grapevines moss and greenery and she also uses aged wood obtained from old barns and houses.
