Boys Choir of Tallahassee to perform in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — Arts for the Community at Thomas University and the Thomasville Center for the Arts will present the renowned Boys' Choir of Tallahassee under the direction of Earl Lee Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Center for the Arts at 600 E. Washington St. Thomasville, Ga. The performance is part of ACTU’s Sundays at Four series.

The concert is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 per person. A reception will follow the performance. For additional information, visit www.thomasu.edu/actu, call (229) 227-6964 or e-mail actu@thomasu.edu.

The Boys’ Choir of Tallahassee is a community-based outreach program for males ages 8 to 18 enrolled in schools throughout the Tallahassee area. Its mission is to foster academic excellence, build character and self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, and help young men realize their fullest potential while acquiring life skills.

“Thomasville is blessed to have the opportunity to witness this choir in action,” said Dr. Karl Barton, series coordinator. “They have performed all over the world with appearances at the Kennedy Center in New York and the Vatican in Rome. The work they do with these young men is inspirational on every level.”

The Choir is unique because of its “No Excuses” motto, which defines its blueprint for the 21st century and its extraordinary musical repertoire. Under Lee’s direction, the choir is experiencing tremendous success in musical performance and academic achievement. These young men maintain rising grade point averages and continuous enrollment in local colleges and universities.

“The last time they were here, we had a capacity audience in the auditorium, and there was something for everyone from Classical selections to spirituals and gospel music,” Barton continued. “They are a remarkable group you simply won’t want to miss.”
