James Robert Hancock Jr.
CAMILLA, Ga. — James Robert Hancock Jr., 85, of Camilla, Ga., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Lewis and the Rev. Tom Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery with military honors. The pallbearers will be Randal Hancock, Vince Hancock, Matt Ethridge, Will McGuire, Trey Ragan and Geoff Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers will be American Legion Post 141 and deacons of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Mitchell County, Ga., he was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He earned many medals including the American Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Purple Heart and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars. He was retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga. He was also a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was the son of the late James Robert “Sonny” Hancock Sr. and Ocie R. Harrell Hancock.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Mark McGuire.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ethell Hancock of Camilla, Ga.; two daughters, Joyce Ethridge and husband Gary of Doerun and Charlotte Uselding of Albany, Ga.; two sons, Travis Hancock and wife Nina of Bath, S.C., and Randal Hancock and wife Sandi of Leesburg, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla, Ga.
