DOERUN — Frank Banks Jr., 81, of Doerun, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 16, at Beulah Grove Baptist Church, where the Rev. Charles Gilbert will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Willie Love, Minister Wilma Gibson and Minister Ellsworth Gibson. Burial will follow in the Bailey Chapel Cemetery in Doerun, with the repast to be concluded at Beulah Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Willie Cheevers, Floyd Bryant Jr., Donald Irvin, Kenneth Robinson, Marcus Pittman and Robert Tift Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Kwaki Copeland, Carlos Tensley, Willie Banks Jr., Glenn Banks, Sidney Hobbs and Anthony Shipp will serve as honorary pallbearers.

He was born on July 24, 1931, in Brooks County, Ga., to the late Frank Banks Sr. and the late Alberta Davis Banks Renfroe. He was a faithful member of Beulah Grove Baptist Church. He was employed with the Albany Marine Logistics Base for 37 years and four months as a boiler fireman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betty Spivey; sister, Annie Kate Banks; brother, Booker T. Banks and grandson, Emory Mitchell.

Survivors include his former wife, Thelma Hill Banks of Moultrie; six sons, Andrew Banks of St. George, S.C., Johnny Banks and wife Carol of Moultrie, Willie James Banks of Miami, Fla., Virgil Banks and wife Valerie of Doerun, Sterling Pittman and wife Tammy of Atlanta, Ga., and Ricky Banks of Moultrie; two daughters, Zell Banks-Daniels and Johnny of Doerun and Melissa Pittman of Moultrie; two sisters, Missy Lee Horne of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Verta Mae Hill of Vero Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Rowena Daniels of Orlando, Fla.; five god-grandchildren; special friend, Mae Daniels of Moultrie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Luke Strong And Son Mortuary, Ltd.
